hi all,

how can i track the harmonics of a bowed piano sound?
You could call this kind of spectral tracking - is this possible
with for example the brigthness follower?
i'd like to have an output of this that i could use to control
other parameters (like with an amp follower).

thanks + best,
florian

The brightness follower gives a sense of how much "weight" is given to the higher partials. It doesn't give you a number of partials, but it does give you an indication of how loud they are relative to the fundamental.

Also, if you create a Gallery in the TAU editor and look at the parameters of the Fantasy Sounds, you'll see another way to get a brightness envelope (in this case, by sending the bandwidthEnvelopeWithTimeIndex: message to PSI file).

thanks for the info. Does it make sense to use the output of the brightness follower to control a parameter of another sound? (like it is possible with an amp follower)

Yes! Any Sound can be pasted into a parameter field. Or you could use the SoundToGlobalController version of the brightness follower.

That is the beauty of the Kyma. You might be on the verge of something spectacular.
I for one, had not considered harmonic content as a modulation source. You should make a patch demonstrating such technique, give it a name, upload it to the tweaky and claim it as your own!

Perhaps reverb send level increases with brightness?

Or perhaps carla's live detune patch, with less harmonics = more detune.
