![]() ![]() ![]() Hello there, Please check with Symbolic Sound, but as far as I am aware you can only access 8 inputs and outputs for the time being, with ANY interface? (although you can duplicate Kyma I/O's to different outputs on your interface). I'm sure they will release a software update later on, allowing access to all the I/O's, so hopefully this would include daisy-chaining TC Electronic devices. By the way, I had my system all set up an ready to go, and was planning to hook the Pacarana up to my Pro Tools rig with the ADAT inputs on my Studio Konnekt 48. Kyma recocnised everything apart from the ADAT I/Os, which I couldn't see within the software. I thought I'd configured it wrong, so tried again and still nothing. E-mailed Symbolic Sound and they tried it and confirmed the ADATs are currently not supported! (I was surpised it wasn't tested before the Pacarana/Konnekt 48 compatibility was announced). They gave me a workaround a few days later, but I haven't been able to try it yet because I lent my Konnekt 48 to my work when some equipment there broke down (before I found out about the workaround). Should be getting my Studio Konnekt back tomorrow so I'll test it then. Also waiting to hear back from Symbolic Sound about whether you can use the S-MUX on the Konnekt 48 to get 96Khz ADAT, but they haven't said anything about that yet either. In theory you should be able to get 8 channels of 96Khz ADAT (S-MUX) to/from the Studio Konnekt 48. EDIT: SSC replied to your question before I finished typing my post!! ![]() ![]() ![]() In case anybody is following this, or trying to do the same thing... I've been trying the ADAT workaround with the Studio Konnekt 48, and it only appears to work with the outputs, not the inputs. I've contacted Symbolic Sound to confirm this, just waiting to hear back. If it is only the ADAT outputs which are available this doesn't work so well for me, as I was hoping to use the Pacarana this way as an "insert" from my DAW (currently Pro Tools, switching to Logic soon). So I would need both inputs and outputs to be working. Anyone else tested this? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() just a short thought: AFAIK, the ProTools 192/digi192 ADAT ports do not support SMUX, so no double sample rate interfacing via adat. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yes that's correct, the 192 I/O's were manufactured before the S-MUX standard was introduced, so I can currently "only" work at 24bit 48Khz. However I'm switching to a Logic Audio setup very soon so will be using an S-MUX compatible interface either with another Konnekt 48 (8 channels with 2 lightpipes in and out) or an Apogee Ensemble (4 channels with 1 cable in and out) at 96Khz. And the fact I don't seem to be able to get inputs at the moment, only outputs is restricting as I can't run Kyma as an insert to and from Pro Tools, just output from the Pacarana to Pro Tools. Symbolic Sound told me they are working on the S-MUX compatibility, but I have not heard anything back yet about the apparent lack of ADAT inputs with the Konnekt 48. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Update: Just heard back from the Symbolic Sound team, both of these issues are currently being worked on (ADAT input not working and the S-MUX), so there should be an update soon. Good news! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Robert I have an Alesis AI3, which provides either and additional 8 channels in or out from the Optical I/O (Adat) port, so you might be able to use one of these to provide another 8 i/o to the Konnekt. Cheers Garth IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Ok thanks, but I think I'll hold out for the SSC update, they said they were crash testing it this week so it sounds promising... Would rather not introduce any more stages of A/D D/A conversion if possible. Also decided I'm definitely gonna use another Studio Konnekt 48 when I move over to Logic. It will be a great combo, once the update is released I will be able to stream 8 channels of digital (ADAT) at 96 Khz to and from Logic. With an Apogee Ensemble this would only be 4 channels, as the Ensemble only has 2 ADAT connectors on the back. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I have bought an Alesis AI3 off eBay - this connects to the ADAT port and gives either 8 extra inputs or outputs - switchable. I am hoping to use this with an Motu 8Pre to have 8 mic pres and 8 channels output. Cheers. Garth IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Supporting different audio interfaces seems like it's going to be a never ending battle for you guys. Makes me wonder if somewhere down the road it would be possible to support or create a virtual audio device such as Soundflower on OS X and send the data directly between the computer and the pacarana. With this option, at least on OS X, you can use aggregate devices to pair any audio interface with the virtual one and pipe sound between for example a DAW, Kyma and the pacarana. It's quite simple and elegant. Soundflower is even open source. http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/ [This message has been edited by bar|none (edited 15 July 2009).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, perhaps this could be done via the ethernet port in conjunction with the FW ports on the Pacarana? That would be pretty amazing, but I've no idea if it's within the technical limitations of the units... Perhaps SSC could confirm if this is theoretically possible?
