Author | Topic: New Paca Install on Win 7 Crashing?

![]() ![]() ![]() I'm trying to install the Kyma software on Windows 7 and have run into a couple of issues. First, when I plug the Paca into my FW800 port Windows warns that the Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana Event Services, Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana Flash Services, and Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana Plug-in Services Device Drivers aren't successfully installed. When I try to load Kyma X, I get the following error: "Please make sure that your Kyma signal processor is properly connected to your computer." I'm pretty sure I've followed the installation procedure closely, and have repeated it a few times with no luck... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! IP: Logged

![]() ![]() ![]() As far as the installation error with windows I can't help as I am on a mac but the second error is something that happens from time to time even with a solid installation Basically reboot your computer and try powering down the paca and then restarting it and make sure the firewire cables are solidly in place. For me I have had occasions where it takes a few tries to get it to work. Sometimes the host computer has trouble making the connection w the paca. It is an annoyance but rest assured that once the connection is established the system is very stable. Because you had an install error I would consider a reinstall of the Kyma software if the issue persists. Did you download the latest Kyma software from the twiki? Also check for the latest firmware for the paca. Perhaps ther is a conflict between them that is a potential cause of your first problem. I can see that the drivers aren't getting installed in the Device Manager. I can see the devices listed there, but they all have the "Troubleshoot" icon next to them. The only one that doesn't is the Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana SBP-2 driver which appears to be fine. I've attached a picture of the errors to this post. I wonder if it's the Firewire PCI card I'm using?... IP: Logged

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi benatural, see the last message of SSC in this topic: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=displayprivate&number=1&topic=001213 I am sure the problem is the same - the drivers are not properly installed. IP: Logged

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi PeterKartsev, Thank you for directing me to that post. I tried to follow the instructions but was unable to get it to work. Here is what I did: 1. Unistall Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana SBP-2 Driver At this point Window's automatically installs the drivers for me, and I don't have the opportunity to add new hardware. I tried to disable the Group Policy for automatic driver installation, and it did stop Windows from trying to automatically install drivers, but when I tried to update the Driver using this path Kyma\Kyma X.app\Contents\Windows Driver Installer, Windows reports that it can't find the driver. ![]() ![]() ![]() It is normal for the Event Services, Flash Services, and Plug-in Services to be without drivers on Windows (these are services discovered automatically by Windows, but that only have a function for the Mac OS). The Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana SBP-2 entry is the important one -- if it is not correct, then Kyma will not be able to locate the Pacarana. Have you tried right-clicking and choosing Update Driver? Navigate to the INF folder inside kyma/Kyma X.app/Contents/Windows Driver Installer and tell Windows to use the driver information there. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for your reply and for clarifying the driver installation process for me. I've verified that the drivers are installed for the Symbolic Sound Corporation Pacarana SBP-2 is installed using the drivers in INF. But I still get the error "Please make sure that your Kyma signal processor is properly connected to your computer." I've tried rebooting multiple times but that hasn't worked for me. I don't know for sure, but suspect that it might be the FW800 PCI card I'm using. It could simply be an error with it's drivers... A new one will is arriving in the mail tomorrow (this one is PCIe instead of PCI) and I'll report back whether or not it resolves the issue. Fingers crossed! IP: Logged

![]() ![]() ![]() I got it working! Turns out it was a number of factors, but an entry in the tweaky installation guide tipped me off in the first place: "We have had two reports of problems when one of the Paca(rana) FireWire ports is directly connected to the the computer's FireWire 800 port and the second Paca(rana) port is directly connected to an audio interface's 400 port. If this occurs, try moving the audio interface connection to your computer's 400 port or to one of the devices that is connected to the computer's 400 port." Which describes the issue I was having exactly. So I plugged the audio interface directly into the computer. That alone didn't resolve the issue but it got me a step closer. I also discovered that my Firewire PCI card wasn't using the legacy Texas Instruments drivers. When I switched to them and powered up my Kyma ALL of the drivers installed correctly. Kyma X was finally started to load, and I no longer got the "Pacarana is missing" error. Except! After the software would initialize it would crash to the desktop with the error "Kyma X application is no longer responding", though before it did I could see the application windows starting to open up. I use a large monitor with a 2560x1600 resolution, and on a whim I tried manually reducing the size of the application window and it finally worked without crashing! I guess Kyma X doesn't like to render at that size? At any rate, it works, and I'm a happy camper. Thanks to those who chimed in with advice. (UPDATE) Disabling graphics acceleration resolves that problem. 2560x1600 works fine with it off. [This message has been edited by benatural (edited 31 May 2013).] IP: Logged |
